Whereas Darth Vader's prototype TIE advanced x1 served as the test bed for new TIE technologies, the TIE avenger was the end result. Or rather, an end result, as the period that followed the Battle of Yavin saw a myriad of new experimental designs in a weapons development pace that rivaled the height of the Clone Wars.

It featured a pair of L-s9.3 laser cannons, and could be outfitted with a pair of warhead launchers.
